Votes for More Support for Military, Veterans

Congressman Bill Sali voted Friday in favor of a bill that includes greater support for America's troops and veterans. H.R. 6599, which passed almost unanimously, includes funding for veterans healthcare benefits and services, military construction projects and for the facilities needed to house and train military personnel at home and abroad. The bill also provides funding for the operation and maintenance of monuments and cemeteries devoted to the men and women in uniform who have fought to protect our freedom.

"One of the most important responsibilities of the federal government, as stated in our Constitution, is to ‘provide for the common defense'. This bill helps boost our national security, and it also makes an important investment in our veterans - the people who have served this country with honor and distinction. Our veterans deserve the very best support of a nation grateful for their contributions and courage of behalf of freedom."

Active duty service members and veterans will benefit from increased funding for military construction, Department of Veterans Affairs and Veterans Health Administration. The military construction budget increased by $1.82 billion; the Department of Veterans Affairs budget increased $4.58 billion; and The Veterans Health Administration budget increased $6.17 billion.

Additionally, the legislation contains funding for two projects in Idaho's 1st Congressional District. The bill contains almost $9.6 million for the Army Reserve Center at Hayden Lake, and nearly $1.9 million for the Army National Guard's Orchard Training Area.
